Summer Academic and Enrichment Program
Welcome to our Registration Page for the 2026 GLCPS Summer Academic and Enrichment Program. This is a FREE two-week program that runs from July 6 - July 17. This program is open to all current and incoming GLCPS students.
The deadline to register is May 15, 2026.
Academic Support: 8:00 am - 11:30 am
Lunch: 11:30 am - 12:00 pm
Enrichment: 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
It includes FREE transportation and lunch (provided by the City of New Bedford Summer Meals Program.

Summer Enrichment Choices
American Sign Language Through Music: Would you like to learn a new language in a fun and creative way? Sign up for ASL Through Music! You will learn the basics of American Sign Language (ASL) while using music to bring your learning to life. You will explore signs, facial expressions, and how to tell a story without using your voice. Instead of just learning vocabulary, use ASL to interpret songs and express their meaning through movement and performance. Work with classmates to practice and create your own signed versions of songs, building confidence and creativity along the way. At the end of the program, you’ll have the chance to perform your work for each other in a fun and supportive environment. No experience needed—just come ready to try something new, be expressive, and have fun!
Babysitting Class by SafeSitter®: This is a free, nationally recognized class taught by New Bedford’s public health nurses for students age 13-15 to learn to babysit. Students practice diapering, learn the ages and stages of child development, first aid and rescue skills (CPR & choking), and gain tips for staying in control of themselves and the children they watch.
Barber Seminar: Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of proper facial hair grooming techniques and basic hair care. The pros and cons of running a business will also be discussed. Students will understand the work ethic, time management, and professionalism needed to run a business. This program is for students entering 9th - 12th grades only and will take place at Goodfella's Barber Shop on Belleville Ave.
Beautiful Harmonies: Harmonies turn simple melodies into complex choral arrangements. Sing a simple song with us! No sheet music necessary!
Competitive Computer Games: Students will work on team building skills while competing on games such as Valorant or League of Legends. Students' ability to play certain games will be limited based on grade level. This is a computer-based club.
Creating with Canva: Canva is the place for emerging designers to make their ideas a reality. Students will learn Canva functionality and learn to create everything from logos and flyers to resumes, business cards, social media marketing and more.
Crown Culture: Have you ever wanted to master the perfect braid or learn the secrets to a healthy, glowing scalp? You will get hands-on experience with some professional tools as we cover everything from scalp hygiene to creating stunning everyday styles. Whether you are looking to boost your self-care routine or start your journey toward a creative career, come learn how to treat your hair like the crown it is! This program is for students entering 9th - 12th grades only.
Dungeons and Dragons: Level up your character, fight monsters, and enter into a world of fantasy! Dungeons and Dragons is a roleplaying game where you get to decide what your character will do next. Join your friends in this adventure game where you will explore dungeons, solve puzzles, talk with other characters, battle monsters, and discover magic items and other treasure along the way.
Flow and Feelings: Do you love to dance and move? Do you want to be able to understand how your body is feeling and how you can move through it? Do you want to build and create your own dance style? Using theater, music, meditation, and the natural elements, we will explore and experiment with moving our bodies in a more mindful way. We will be able to feel everything no matter how big or small and have fun while doing it!
Intramural Sports: Students will participate in various outdoor sports activities at Riverside Park. This program is designed for students who are interested in playing friendly competitive games with friends. Please come prepared with water, headgear and sunscreen. Sneakers are required to participate in this program.
Intro to Cooking: Young chefs will discover new ingredients, learn various cooking techniques, and explore cuisines from around the world. This club is the perfect place to experiment, create, and share your culinary masterpieces with friends. Join us to expand your taste buds, develop your cooking skills, and have fun in the kitchen!
Intro to Cheerleading: Students learn basic cheerleading skills along with stretches and performance cheers. This is program is open to both males and females. Sneakers are required to participate in this program. It will take place at Riverside Park.
Intro to Playwriting: So you have a story to tell? Do you love to create characters and captivate audiences? playwriting is the art of crafting written narratives for live performance. In this summer course, students will generate ideas, play drama games, act out scenes, write, and perform a short 30 second monologue!
Jewelry Making: Students will participate in a fun project to bring out their inner creativity. They can make jewelry for themselves or share with their classmates. Jewelry supplies will be provided.
Mural Making: Students in this group will help design and paint artwork to brighten up hallways within the school.
Minecraft: Join us for an adventure in the world of Minecraft! Whether you're a master builder or just starting out, this club is all about creativity, teamwork, and fun. Work on exciting challenges, design epic structures, explore new worlds, and even learn basic coding and problem-solving skills. The only limit is your imagination—so grab your pickaxe and let's play!
Rhythm Search: Everything has rhythm. It’s in the words we use, the things we do, and the steps we take. There is rhythm everywhere, you just need to find it. “RhythmSearch” is a combination spoken word and common object percussion session where we put words to rhythm and rhythm to words, culminating in a final performance.
Safe @ Home Class by SafeSitter®: This is a free, nationally recognized class taught by New Bedford’s public health nurses for students age 9-12 to care for themselves when parents are away for a short period of time. Students learn basic first aid, how to practice safe habits, how to prevent unsafe situations, and what to do when faced with dangers such as power outages or weather emergencies.
