The Wait is Worth It

By Emma Moniz, Class of 2026

Every senior has things they are looking forward to, something that they count down the days for, waiting for it to finally happen. For some that may be prom, the senior trip, and even graduation. For me, however,, I am most excited for my college acceptance letters. I have always prided myself on school, and I have always known college is a guaranteed part of my future. What college I will attend and what major I want to pursue are the biggest decisions I will make this school year.

Growing up, I always wanted to be a million different things, but now that I am older and now making this big decision I realized something very vital about myself. I need to set myself up for a career I will enjoy for the rest of my life. While I have not decided what school I will be attending, I now know I want to pursue a journalism or creative writing major (some schools only have creative writing as a major) and an art history minor. Since I have a passion for writing, researching, and art, this major and minor is perfect for me.

While deciding what to go for is a hard decision, deciding where to go is even harder. Due to the rising cost of colleges and universities, it makes securing scholarships much more imperative. While I applied to almost all in state schools, the prices weigh in a large part of my decision. Most schools I applied to are in Boston or further, meaning I would not be able to commute. It is important to me that I go somewhere affordable but also somewhere that I will thrive academically and socially.

Despite the decisions I have to make, the most challenging part of the application process is waiting. There are so many amazing places I have applied to such as Emerson College, Bridgewater State University, Salve Regina, and Lesley University, just to name a few. I honestly think this is the most impatient I’ve ever been throughout my life. I constantly check, and, fortunately, so the wait doesn’t feel like forever. I have heard back from a few of my schools already. However, I will not hear back from the other schools for a month or two since that is typically the time when colleges send regular decision application results.

I cannot wait to see where college will take me and all of the things I will learn. While it is a challenge to stay patient, it is completely worth the wait. My life is only beginning and college will be what I make of it. I am excited to continue to grow academically and personally while I begin this new chapter of my life. Lastly, I am extremely grateful to my parents, teachers, and the College & Career Center staff for helping me and supporting me throughout my college application process.
