The students said it was a good way to honor local service men and women especially as the nation celebrated Veterans Day earlier this month. Jarilis Garcia, a tenth grade student, said ”this is a good way to give tribute to the veterans who protect the country.”
While the military personnel who attended the breakfast were happy to speak with students as all were enjoying a hearty breakfast, it wasn’t about the recognition for them. “I don’t bask in it. This is my job” said US Army Grade 5 Chief Warrant Officer Daryn Gomes, adding "I love what I do.”
Students seemed pleased to have the opportunity to speak with the guests with some saying they felt inspired by what they had accomplished. Sophia Merrey, a tenth grade student noted “it does bring awareness to special topics.”
