GLCPS Celebrates Its 15th Graduating Class

The Global Learning Charter Public School returned to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth after a two-year hiatus to celebrate its 15th high school commencement. GLCPS presented 29 diplomas to the Class of 2022 before a packed auditorium of family, friends, dignitaries and supporters. The ceremony took place on June 5, 2022. 

The keynote speaker was New Bedford At-large City Councilor Shane Burgo. Councilor Burgo had attended GLCPS as a middle school student. He was elected to the city council in the fall of 2021. During his remarks, he spoke about the support he received as a student at GLCPS and encouraged the graduates to pursue their dreams and goals especially when it is challenging.

Student speakers were Class of 2022 Valedictorian Kasandra Furtado and Senior Class President Sabrina Costa.

Executive Director Steve Furtado highlighted the many accomplishments of the Class of 2022, including 50% of the class completed internships; 11 students earned college credits through dual enrollment; eight students earned the Seal of Biliteracy; 76% plan to pursue higher education immediately after high school; and the 29 graduates were offered a total of $422,000 in financial aid packages and scholarships.
