Veteran Actors Share Their Passion for Acting

March 14 - “Guys and Dolls” is a timeless production, and this year’s Drama Club members are eager to bring it to life. Last week, new members Braelyn Pires (Grade 7) and Jaelise Fitzpatrick (Grade 5) shared their thoughts on the play and their experiences being involved in this year's production. As newcomers, they had plenty to say about stepping into the world of drama.

On the other hand, high school students Abigail Urbina-Lopez (Grade 10) and Emma Kochanek (Grade 9), are drama club veterans. This will be Abigail’s sixth show and Emma’s fifth. Acting has been a passion for both since childhood. “Since I was four, I wanted to be an actress, so this is kind of my only way to do that,” Emma shared.

For Abigail, stepping into character is something special. “It’s not just about the show; you’re giving the character your own flair,” she explained. To her, every actor brings something new to a role, making each performance unique.

Beyond acting, Drama Club teaches valuable life lessons. “A lot of kids tend to be more judgmental, but it’s about getting over that fear and understanding that this is a passion,” Abigail said. This lesson extends beyond the stage, helping students grow in confidence.

Drama Club also creates a strong bond between its members. Nonverbal communication, like a simple glance or shift in body language, can speak volumes. Emma summed it up best: “It’s about forming friendships and connections with people and learning about yourself.”

With “Guys and Dolls” being performed this weekend, the cast is excited to put on an unforgettable show.
