A Partnership Success Story
New Bedford - The GLCPS College and Career Center, in partnership with MassHire, is providing students with resources to help them navigate their future. With annual events, college and career workshops, and internship opportunities, the partnership supports students of all ages in preparing for their next steps after high school.
The College and Career Center (CCC) is staffed by three counselors: Ms. McPherson, Ms. Encarnacao, and Ms. Polochick work closely with students and guide them towards success. A key part of this is their partnership with MassHire, an extension of the New Bedford Career Center that partners with SouthCoast middle and high schools to promote college and career planning. “This support offers schools connections within the communities through workshops, speakers, expos, college/career fairs, internships, and a number of other related opportunities,” said Ms. McPherson. “MassHire promotes school future engagement with high school students through academic, social-emotional, and college/career future planning.”
There are multiple events already planned throughout the year, including Senior Night, the Boston College Fair for 10th and 11th graders, and the MassHire College & Community Expo for sophomores. Events are designed to be engaging, helping students create connections with their peers. The CCC is excited for the future and plans to expand.
“GLCPS College & Career Staff are grateful for the connection with MassHire and look forward to additional events later in the year,” said Mrs. McPherson. “These include the Adams Scholarship Breakfast and the sponsorship of various courses and transportation for internships during the academic year. We look forward to expanding programming next year.”
