The GLCPS community will kick off the new school year with its annual Back to School Night BBQ, and this year we're throwing a block party! The event will take place on Tuesday, August 23rd from 5 - 7 PM on Nye Street. The street between Ashley Blvd. and Acushnet Avenue will be blocked off for the event. Normally, we're set up in the parking lot for the Back to School Night BBQ. This year, however, due to the ongoing construction in our much-anticipated Joan and Irwin Jacobs STEAM Education Center, we are doing things a little differently. Students and families will be treated to an old-fashioned cookout. Families will also be able to receive individualized informational packets with student schedules, collect pre-ordered school uniforms, and speak to teachers and staff. The Back to School Night BBQ is one of the school's best attended events.

The Global Learning Charter Public School returned to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth after a two-year hiatus to celebrate its 15th high school commencement. GLCPS presented 29 diplomas to the Class of 2022 before a packed auditorium of family, friends, dignitaries and supporters. The ceremony took place on June 5, 2022.

The Global Gala, GLCPS’s long-established scholarship fundraising event, returns this year after a two-year hiatus caused by the Covid 19 pandemic. Organizers of the gala have made a few changes that promise to make the event even more fun than in previous years. They have changed the location, hired a new caterer, and added a full (cash) bar. There will still be an auction which is already live and online so that bidders can get a jump on some excellent treasures. The live auction at the event has been eliminated this year but the ticket auction at which gala guests can purchase raffle tickets in hopes of winning some exciting prizes that are not in the bidding auction, is back by popular demand.

Two high school and one middle school student from the Global Learning Charter Public School (GLCPS) have been selected to participate in this year’s Southeastern District Music Festivals hosted by the Massachusetts Music Educators Association (MMEA). The three students received invitations to perform with music students from across the region following auditions held earlier this year.

In light of the recent surge in Covid-19 cases, I would like to address a few issues and ask for your cooperation. I’ve always appreciated the care and concern this GLCPS community has shown for one another and our current situation is no exception. We will need everyone to do their part so that we can all stay as healthy and safe as possible.

Construction has begun on the much anticipated future home of GLCPS' Joan and Irwin Jacobs STEAM Education Center. Crews have been clearing debris to prepare the interior for the state-of-the-art facility that will house, among other things, science labs, a maker space, music room and the school's College and Career Center.

The Global Learning Charter Public School (GLCPS) recently broke ground on a major renovation and expansion project to create a state-of-the-art educational facility in the north end of New Bedford.

“Today, we have reached a milestone as we begin the transformation of the building behind me,'' said the school’s executive director, Stephen Furtado. “This addition to our current building will include new science classrooms and labs, a technology maker space, an expanded College and Career Center, world languages, mathematics, music and art rooms.”

Three meetings have been scheduled to accommodate GLCPS families. It's expected the meetings will be well attended.

BayCoast Bank, a local institution committed to serving its communities, has pledged $250,000 to Global Learning Charter Public School's capital campaign to create one state-of-the-art campus in New Bedford.
