GLCPS HOSTS CAPE VERDE SCHOOL LEADER

Ms. Fortes’ visit comes eight months after a group of GLCPS staff members traveled to Cape Verde to meet with her and other school leaders to share teaching practices and provide technology support. The group also presented materials to the schools, including gently used notebook computers, Rubik cubes, and cameras.

The cultural and educational exchange has been a win-win for both schools. Plans are underway to adopt a memorandum of understanding which will formalize the partnership.

Ms. Fortes has been visiting classrooms and meeting staff members. She also plans to attend various cultural, social and community events, according to Adonis Ferreira, Director of Student, Family and Community Life for GLCPS, and is interested in visiting other schools in the area.

ESJB is a high school on the island of São Vicente. The school serves 1,900 students in grades 7-12. When GLCPS staff members visited last June, Ms. Fortes welcomed them enthusiastically and prepared an incredible educational and cultural experience with her staff and students.

As part of her visit, Ms. Fortes will be participating in the GLCPS enrollment lottery scheduled for Thursday, March 5th at 6:00 PM. The Public is invited to attend.
