As the Director of Counseling, Ashley McPherson makes sure that every GLCPS student receives the support needed for academic readiness and future planning. A staff member since 2015, Ms McPherson established the school's College & Career Center. Here, all students, families, staff, and college representatives and community partners are welcome to support students' future planning.  Ms. McPherson works with students in all grades, 5-12.  Middle school students are challenged to explore their career interests.  8th grade students present their final Presentation of Learning by sharing their individual 10 Year high school/college/career plan.  High school students carefully plan their academic pathway and work with the Naviance program in monthly, grade-level seminars.  College and career advising ramps up in the 11th and 12th grade for students and families with significant support in the college application process and financial aid advising.  She works with Mrs. Kristy Silva, the School to Career Liaison, to support the GLCPS Alumni Association in students' post-graduation critical years. Positive relationships with students, families and community partners is at the heart of the College & Career Center work at GLCPS.

She earned a Bachelors' from the University of Florida in Family, Youth, and Community Sciences (Go Gators!) and Masters' degree in Counseling from Wake Forest University with a specialization in School Counseling.  Ms. McPherson holds School Counseling and Administrative licenses in Massachusetts.  She loves the beach, playing soccer, adventures with her son & traveling internationally.

"In high school, no one ever asked me what I wanted to do after high school - nevermind help me plan out the necessary steps early enough.  I never want that to be the case for my GLCPS students." Ms. McPherson remembered.
