Why Celebrate Scholarships?

(New Bedford) - The presenting of the John and Abigail Adams Scholarship recently brought smiles to the faces of many seniors, myself included. The Adams Scholarship Breakfast, held on Friday, May 9th, recognized students who earned the award through good MCAS performance. The event was full of excitement for the future and relief over past worries. Students shared a sense of school pride with their families and friends as they reflected on the last four years of hard work and thought ahead to what’s next.

Seniors Vanessa Pereira and Ivette Terrero were just two of the many scholarship recipients. “I saved up for my college, and I am glad that it paid off and I got this scholarship,” said Vanessa. Ivette added, “I am excited I got this scholarship because it is going to help me a lot in college.” Their words reflected what many students felt; relief and excitement, knowing their hard work paid off.

The John and Abigail Adams Scholarship provides financial support ranging from $900 to $2,000 each year, depending on the school. At a time when college costs continue to rise, this scholarship helps with the financial worries for students and their families. It not only rewards academic achievement but also increases access to higher education.

Events like the Adams Scholarship Breakfast highlight the importance of scholarships. They are more than just recognizing students. They are real opportunities that support students in reaching their goals. For many, this breakfast marked the start of a brand new chapter filled with opportunities.
