GLCPS hosts the Business Community

On Thursday, February 28, 2013 from 8:00 - 10:30 am GLCPS will hold their 5th Annual Business-Education Forum.

The forum will include a networking breakfast and a panel discussion entitled "Building the 21st century jobs pipeline for the Southcoast and beyond". Business and education partnerships are the most effective method for leveraging public and private resources to improve the quality of education, build inspired connections between learning and working and assist in preparing a qualified workforce. Business leaders as role models help students see the SouthCoast region as an exciting place to consider staying and contributing.  They enrich students’ learning: making it applied and real to them helps keep them engaged in the classroom. From students, business leaders can learn about the unique challenges today's students face and celebrate the students' successes as they move toward higher education.

This event is free and open to the public and will be held at the Ocean Explorium located at 174 Union Street in New Bedford.  For more information or to R.S.V.P for this event, please contact Lynn Poyant, Director of Education and Community Outreach at 508-991-4105 or lpoyant@glcps.org.

As a panelist, you will be asked to analyze students' presentation skills and offer observations, constructive feedback and praise for what they have accomplished.  If you can join us, let us know which session works best for you.  You are welcome to participate for as much of the day as you wish.

Important Health & Safety Information

Please take note that the Greater New Bedford area is at increased risk for mosquito borne illnesses.  Both EEE and West Nile Virus cause illness in humans.  EEE can be particularly challenging as it can cause swelling of the brain.  Until the first frost, GLCPS is advising families to stay indoors after 6 pm.  If you must be outdoors, you may choose to use mosquito repellant for safety.  Your risks are also reduced by windy conditions and/or temperatures below 58 degrees.  Please consider your highest risk times from dusk to dawn.  For more information, please visit the Department of Public Health's website at www.mass.gov/dph

GLCPS Summer Program 2010

Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians:

This summer, the teachers and administration of GLCPS are pleased to be offering free programs for our middle and high school students in skill building and enrichment.  The program will run Monday to Thursday: July 6, 2010 to July 29, 2010.  Our daily schedule will be:

Morning - Academic Skill Building Program, 8:30 am - 11:30 am,

Afternoon - Enrichment Programs, 12 noon - 3:00 pm

Students will need to bring a bag lunch if they are scheduled to attend both morning and afternoon sessions.  Regular transportation will not be available.  We will try to help, when possible, with car-pooling information/coordination.

Skill Building Classes:
1 - Required Attendance: We will be requiring certain students to participate.  Students in this category will be identified in a meeting with their parent/guardian and counselor.  A space will be reserved for them and they will be expected to attend.

2 - Recommended Attendance: Counselors will meet with specific students and recommend that they attend this summer program.  Students choosing to attend will be able to increase their skills and abilities in preparation for the coming academic year.  A space will be available for them.

3 - Student Choice: Students may wish to increase their skills over the summer.  If they are not in the "Required" or "Recommended" categories, their participation will be on a space-available basis. Spaces will be filled in order of when applications are received.

*Note: We have one morning class in French language and culture for interested middle school students.  It is only by student choice and will be filled on a first-come first-served basis.

The Afternoon Enrichment Program includes fun experiences in sports and the arts.  The afternoon programs are enrolled on a first-come first-served basis.  Classes will have a minimum and maximum number of students.  Enrollment slots will be open on May 24, 2010.  You can mail in your form or hand-deliver it to our main office.  We will notify parents and students once enrollment is complete.

We look forward to receiving your applications.  You may download an application here.

Sincerely,

Ljuba Marsh, Principal

Global Gala 2010

On behalf of the Global Learning Charter Public School (GLCPS) community, I want to thank the many individuals, organizations, businesses, staff, students, parents and musicians who supported the Global Gala on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at the Whaling Museum.  It was an exceptional night - full of celebration, inspiration, and hope.  Special appreciation to our GLCPS Board of Trustees for their leadership and to our event hosts and sponsors for ensuring the success of this grand evening!

GLCPS prepares students to succeed in a 21st century, technology-driven, global society.  Higher education is a key part of this equation.  As a result of the generosity of those who participated in our Global Gala, we established the GLCPS College Scholarship Fund.  On June 6th, we will graduate our third senior class.  Nearly 100% of GLCPS seniors have been accepted to college.

Thanks to so many in our community who are creating a bright future for our students!
