Community Partners
As we strive to "use the community as a classroom", GLCPS creates strategic and invaluable partnerships that enhance our entire curriculum with a special emphasis on our mathematics and science program. Since our inception, we have sustained important affiliations with High Tech High in San Diego, California and the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. The High Tech High model has been incorporated into the core of our instruction which promotes hands-on learning and "presentations of learning" (POL) in which completed student projects are presented to peers and the community. Our affiliation with the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth has been vital to our success, as they have provided both financial and technical assistance support for GLCPS's professional development program. The University's assistance not only reaches into our classrooms but has a substantive impact on GLCPS's management approach and organizational development. Moreover, the Chancellor has served as a member of the Board of Trustees since the school was launched which adds value to the University's efforts to strengthen and support K-12 education.
GLCPS is committed to strengthening and enhancing our science education by capitalizing on the region's rich history and expertise in the marine industry and the environmental and ocean sciences. To this end, we have forged strategic relationships with local community institutions listed below. Teachers capitalize on the countless ocean and marine science activities these institutions offer to help strengthen and enhance our curriculum. In exchange, many of our teachers assist in developing curriculum models, serve on boards, and/or support the educational outreach and professional development efforts of these organizations.
