Derek Michael is a veteran of the GLCPS family. He first joined the GLCPS staff in 2005 as a teacher of Humanities for Grade 8. He also taught all subjects for Grade 6 and was the Reading Specialist for 4 years, prior to becoming the Director of Curriculum, the position in which he now serves. Mr. Michael received his BA in history from Whitman College and his MA in Education from UCLA. He is a member of Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, as well as the International Reading Association. Mr. Michael takes advantage of the extended Summer school break to travel with his family to other countries for weeks, and sometimes months, at a time. Some of the countries they have explored include Italy, Slovenia, Portugal, Thailand, Canada and Mexico.
