Special Education

Here at GLCPS we run a full inclusion model where students receive a majority of their services in the classrooms with general education teachers, special education teachers, paraprofessionals and other related service providers (Occupational and Speech Therapist).  At the present time we are undergoing a pilot program for developing the co-teaching model.  We have three special education teachers that work with the general education math teachers to begin the development of this model.  It is within our hopes that we continue to grow with this each year.  In addition to the co-teaching program underway and the fully inclusive model we also have a focus period built into the schedules. A unique aspect that GLCPS has to offer all students is a daily focus period. This period is built into the everyday schedule (grades 5-8) where teachers and students work on remedial skill building.  For special education, it is the time where we are able to pull students out and work on remedial skill building and skill  building in accordance with the IEP goals and objectives.

Furthermore, in addition to our services, student and staff, our latest Coordinated Program Review (2009) through the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education shows that we are able to uphold and maintain compliance with the regulations put forth my the state.  Our next Coordinated Program Review (CPR) is scheduled for the Spring of 2015.
