GLCPS Principal Lena Pires Named Top Ten Finalist for Best In Education Award

The Escalante-Gradillas Best In Education Awards Competition recognizes school leaders from across the country who are making a difference through their ability to lead create and nurture a culture of excellence in education. Ms. Pires was nominated for the award by GLCPS high school science teacher Diana Cost. After reading about the accomplishments of Ms. Pires and of GLCPS, the awards committee quickly accepted her nomination. A Facebook page was set up, and is still available, to capture testimony from present and former students, staff and community members about Ms. Pires' contributions and leadership skills. The Facebook page included this slide show with evidence of GLCPS' success. Before being named as a finalist, the Best In Education judges chose Ms. Pires as a semi-finalist with 20 other school administrators whose names were submitted from across the country. The committee is expected to make a decision in a few days.
Ms. Pires is the only educational leader from Massachusetts chosen as a finalist. Sharing and spreading the news through Facebook, Twitter and other social and traditional media will increase her chances of winning the grand prize. Please help GLCPS spread the word!
