A Hearbreaking Loss for GLCPS

As you can imagine, her two young children and her husband, along with her parents, need all the support they can get. We will host a Dress-Down Day next Friday, December 15th. Students and staff who donate $2.00 or more can dress down. All the money collected will go directly to the Zeida family.

If you would like to contribute to the Zeida family, please reach out to us.

After learning of Mrs. Zeida's death late Wednesday night, the GLCPS administrative team made the decision to cancel school on Thursday and again on Friday to give our staff time to begin processing their own shock and grief. While classes were not held, we notified families that the building was open and that grief counselors would be on the premises to speak with anyone who needed counseling. Additionally, GLCPS staff members contacted the families of most of Mrs. Zeida's students by phone to offer comfort and assurance.

GLCPS is grateful for the outpouring of support from the community; such as the Tremblay Bus Company which has made a substantial donation to the Zeida family; to the Chew family for providing sustenance to the staff as we planned how best to help our students and families to cope with the loss of a beloved teacher; to New Bedford Public Schools for providing additional grief counselors for our students, and to Alma del Mar and Bishop Stang High School, both of which reached out to us as well with offers of support; to therapist Bob Konkel, MSW,  who spent the last two days with us, ready to meet with anyone who needed to talk; to Ellevation Education for the beautiful bouquet of flowers, and to the many vendors and community partners who have called to offer support and condolences.
