This summer, the teachers and administration of GLCPS are pleased to offer the following programs:

Skill Building Program - This is a free, three-week program (July 10th to July 28th), Monday through Friday, 8:30 – 11:30 AM, for our students who are in need of additional support for improving their Math and/or ELA.

Activity Enrichment Program - This is a free, three-week program (July 10th to July 28th) Monday through Friday, 12:00 – 3:00 PM for our students. Please check the list of programs, dates, and times. Students interested in attending this program must complete and return the Summer Programs Application Form. A lottery will be held for any activity with more than 20 students enrolled. You will receive written notification when a student is enrolled in one or more programs. Classes may be canceled if there are not enough enrolled students, and a waiting list will be established for classes that are over-enrolled.

Course Completion Program – Middle School students needing to do additional work in order to receive credit for a class, must complete the Summer Programs Application Form, receive the required signed approvals on the back page, and pay the $125.00 per class to be enrolled in the Summer Course Credit Completion Program. Class credit will only be issued once the required work is completed and approved by the summer subject teacher. These required morning sessions are for three weeks (July 10th to July 28th) Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM- 11:00 AM.


Register online using the link below. Please have your child fill out the form no later than June 9th to guarantee their spot in their choice of program. We will provide free breakfast and lunch made possible by the city’s Summer Food Service Program. However, students may bring a bag lunch if they prefer. Regular transportation to and from school will be available.


SUMMER ENRICHMENT PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS


Bowling

Students learn the fundamentals of bowling through skill-building and games.  Students will be transported to Wonder Bowl for this activity.  


Fierce Dance

Students can increase their physical activity through this popular dance-exercise class! Students will be transported to Fierce Dance Academy in Fairhaven for this activity.


Global Karate Academy

This Tang Soo Do class is for the enhancement and advancement of current and new students who have earned a yellow belt or higher.  Calendar and club information is sent home with students upon admission to the club.


Indoor Volleyball (Grades 5 – 7/ Grade 8+)

This program will cover the fundamentals of volleyball.  Students will have the opportunity to play at varying levels of skill while having fun!


Outdoor Intramurals Sports

Intramural Sports offers you the opportunity to participate in your favorite sport at a recreational level.  Sports sessions include basketball, soccer, flag football, tennis, softball and dodgeball.  Students will be transported to Hazelwood Park for this activity.


Percussions

Do you want to learn to drum?  Do you want to revisit your African Drumming training?  This week long session will have our students covering the basics of the different forms of percussion.  Those with more experience will move on to the next level of percussion training.


Pokemon Club

This club will instill in the members a sense of camaraderie, team building and sportsmanship.  These games require higher order thinking skills, strategic thinking, and problem solving in a fun setting.  Bring your cards and we will help in forming decks for game play.  The club is open to all grades.


Strategy/Board Games

Students will be provided with a variety of board and card games to play with their peers.  This club offers students the opportunity to socialize with their peers while strengthening critical thinking skills through game play.  This is open to all students.


Swimming Program

Students learn water safety and participate in swimming lessons. Students will be transported by bus to local beaches for afternoons of sun and fun.


Vex Robotics

Students will design, build and program robots for local and regional competition in the fall and spring.  This program integrates science, technology, engineering and mathematics as a means to meaningfully engage and deliver a dynamic hands-on educational experience.   This program is available to grades 

6 – 12 students.


The Wonderful & Wacky World of Clay

Students will have fun learning the basics of hand building with clay creating masks, face vessels, mugs and much, much, more.  Anything can be created; it's up to your imagination!  All work will be painted with acrylics and sprayed with a glossy finish.
